Common items to consider before your GA Salvage Inspection

When preparing for a GA Salvage Inspection, it’s important to ensure the vehicle meets specific standards to pass. Here’s a checklist to help you get ready:

  1. Airbag (SRS) and ABS Lights:

    • Must perform a self-check (lights come on for 7-13 seconds and then go out). MyAirbags can help to reset the airbag control module, rebuild seat belts and other SRS components
    • If the lights do not come on or stay on, the vehicle will fail the inspection.
  2. Headliner:

    • Must be replaced if creased due to curtain airbag deployment; repairs are not acceptable.
  3. Tires:

    • Must be in good condition with no cords showing.
    • Wear should not be down to the wear indicators.
  4. Glass:

    • Front and rear glass must be free of chips and cracks.
  5. Functionality:

    • Horn, all lights, and turn signals must be operational.
  6. Replacement Parts:

    • Can be new or used.
    • Used parts must include the donor vehicle’s VIN on the receipt.
  7. Repairs:

    • Should not use sheet metal screws or rivets unless specified by manufacturer procedures.
    • Adhesives require the paint to be removed from the area to stick to the metal.
    • Minimize the use of body filler; it cannot be used to create parts (e.g., fenders).
    • Shims or heavy fillers are not allowed between hinges and mounting surfaces; hinges must mount flush.
  8. Paint and Undercoating:

    • No paint or undercoating should be present on repairs or replacement parts.

Ensure all these conditions are met before the inspection to increase the chances of passing the GA Salvage Inspection.
