What is the difference between Active and Stored codes?

Active codes indicate current issues and should be prioritized, as they typically trigger a service light. Stored codes, while visible with a scan tool, may not always be relevant. If a stored code causes a service light and cannot be cleared, it may point to an internal module issue, especially if the code relates to a known good component and there are no wiring problems.
